Job Title: After School Care Director
Job Classification: Non-exempt, hourly
Summary: The After School Care (ASC) Director oversees the ASC program, supporting the Lead in managing the daily
operations. The ASC Director is responsible for ASC Staff hiring and training and is ultimately responsible for all aspects of
the program, including staff support, maintaining policies and procedures, and creating a healthy work environment. The
Director would also support the lead and staff in health communication with parents, staff, and children and is the conduit for
communication with other school committees.
Reports to: ASC Committee, Faculty, and the Administrative Director
Supervisory Responsibilities:
● Is responsible for all aspects of the ASC program and can delegate appropriate tasks to the lead and staff
● Trains the lead in all aspects of the daily operations and mentors the lead often to maintain healthy operations
● Communicate duties clearly, offering clear feedback in a positive way
● Trains caretakers in ASC policies and procedures, including playground rules and Waldorf education.
● Assess the evolving needs of the caretakers and children in the program and communicate with staff, parents and all
school staff
● Track staff capabilities and job performance and create individualized staff development plans, including
self-evaluations and performance reviews
● Maintains and shares prudent information to and from committees, faculty and staff
● Train the Lead on how to manage emergency forms, first aid kits and staff backpacks
● Provide training to all staff in fire drills, lockdown and active shooter drills
● Provide training to all ASC staff in the schools policies and procedures
● Delegate non-managerial tasks
Duties/Responsibilities:
● Must be available to support Lead in urgent matters and provide guidance for decision making
● Leads all ASC meetings and chairs the ASC Committee
● Meets with Faculty representatives for education and mentoring and participates in the evaluations process
● Ensures that all policies, procedures and laws are being followed
● Trains the Lead in maintaining appropriate numbers of staff per child, creating schedules and being knowledgeable
about all playground rules
● Models and maintains healthy and organized communication with all SWS employees
● Collaborates with parents, staff and teachers for child-specific support
● Attends Friday Faculty meetings for the first hour
● Abides by decisions of the Faculty and the Board of Trustees
● Develops professionally through reading, conferences, and workshops. Including Waldorf Education and Anthroposophy
● Manages ASC billing and data with Administration
● Supports the Lead in managing ASC daily activities, mentoring and supervising staff
● Able to work independently or with a team
Required Skills/Abilities:
● Willing and able to participate in ongoing Waldorf training
● Demonstrated ability to take initiative to effectively lead staff and students
● Communicate clearly and directly with students, parents, staff and faculty daily
● ASC Director must pass the FBI and Child Abuse Reference Check (CAIC ) Fingerprinting clearance through Live Scan
● Must obtain, within 30 days of hire, First Aid/CPR and Mandated Reporter training.
Required education and experience:
● Experience working in the Waldorf environment
● Two years of experience working with children
● One year of experience in leadership roles and delegating tasks
Desired education and experience:
● Waldorf trained teacher
● Bachelor’s degree in child development or another related field
● Experience training others to work with children
● ECE Units, or willingness to acquire them
● Worked as the After School Care Lead/Supervisor
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, is
frequently required to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, and is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel,
crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 50 lbs. Required work will take place outside in all types
of weather and in a classroom, and it will frequently be noisy and busy. Working may require exposure to bacterial
contamination.
Time, weeks/year: 10-25 hours per week, up to 40 weeks per year
Compensation and benefits: $22-$29/hour, d.o.e
