Job Title:  Spanish Upper Grades Teacher

Job Classification:  Part time hourly

Summary: The Upper Grades Spanish Specialty teacher leads and instructs individual classes at Sierra Waldorf School.

Reports to: Faculty and Specialty Mentor, specific Admin questions

Supervisory Responsibilities: only students under care.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Instructing upper grades classes 4-8th, 2-3 hours per class per week.
  • Weekly mentoring with Lower Grades Spanish for program continuity 
  • Meeting weekly for 1 hour with Specialty mentoring group.
  • 3 hours weekly for class preparation 
  • Faculty Meeting Participation 1 hour weekly.
  • Yard Duty: 1 periods weekly
  • 20 summer prep hours
  • Training and membership Waldorf Spanish Teachers Association
  • Write up a Year End report per class describing core content of the program provided and how it meets the child of that age/dev.cycle.

Required Skills & Abilities:

Spanish as native language or high level fluency with deep cultural experience/knowledge.

Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills

Holds students without the presence of the class teacher

Manages the behavior of students

Classroom management skills

Ability to work independently

Promptness

Record keeping skills 

Ability to maintain confidentiality 

A love for teaching and the ability to build a trusting relationship with students and colleagues

Mentor with specialty teacher group for disciplinary techniques and specifics per student 

Report to teacher when action was needed/taken with a student

Desired Skills & Abilities:

Experience working with and supervising children. Experience teaching Spanish to school age children.

Experience/willingness to create and facilitate Spanish festivals, class plays/poetic recitations, other inspired events.

Desired Education and Experience: 

Ongoing self-development with focus on Waldorf approaches to child development, games, other curriculum based activities.

Physical Requirements:

The ability to lift 25lbs.

The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.

The ability to see and respond to emergency situations.

Time and wage, weeks/year:

Spanish Upper Grades: Part Time hourly w/ expectation of review for next year’s program

  • 1:2 prep/hr.
  • 13 hours/wk @$25 (12,650k)
  • Student Contact Hours: 6 (3 hrs each for 6 and 7/8)
  • Mentoring Hours: 2
  • Prep: 3
  • Faculty Meeting Hours: 1
  • Yard Duty Hours: 1
  • 20 summer prep hours
  • 12 hours Certifications
  • 6 hours reports (3 hours per class, curriculum, progress, individual)
  • Training and membership Waldorf Spanish Teachers Association
  • $500 program budget
