Job Title: Aide – Mixed Age Kindergarten / Nursery Licensed Facility

Job Classification: Non-exempt, hourly, part-time 

Summary: The Aide participates in all aspects of the classroom work, including preparing for classroom activities, prepping snack, housekeeping, participation and support in supervising children during regular class hours, storytime, and circle time ( singing, finger games, movement activities), helping the children to clean and tidy the classroom. Aides participate in regular mentoring with EC Faculty and attend the first hour of faculty meetings when available. 

Reports to: This position reports to the Lead Teacher 

Duties/Responsibilities: Follow the Waldorf Curriculum as directed by the Class Teacher, which may include but is not limited to the following: 

  • Participate in classroom setup, cleaning, and preparation at the beginning of the school year. Closing down a classroom for summer. 
  • Share in the care and supervision of children during regular class hours under the Class Teacher’s direction. 
  • Prepare snack 
  • Maintain food lists for the Lead Assistant 
  • Housekeeping 
  • Handwork support and duties 
  • Participation and support in story time and circle time 
  • Help the children to clean and tidy the classroom 
  • Hold rest time and closing classroom duties 
  • Attend EC faculty mentoring for the last hour 
  • Attend the first hour of Faculty Meetings 
  • Attend one or more early childhood courses a year 

Required Skills/abilities: 

Ability to hold the rhythm of the day 

Familiarity with a kitchen and ability to follow recipes

Organizational skills 

Professionalism- including the ability to keep adult conversations away from the children and personal phones put away while working 

Strong verbal communication skills 

Able to follow the lead of the teacher 

Desired Skills/abilities: 

Food preparation for a large group of children 

Required Education and experience: 

High School diploma 

Experience working with children 

Applicant must pass, FBI and Child Abuse Reference Check (CAIC ) Fingerprinting clearance through the Guardian Live Scan System 

Desired Education and experience: 

Working towards 6 core units of early childhood education and an interest to be fully qualified with 12 core units of coursework in early childhood education or child development; at least one course must be in each of the following: 

Child, family, community, or child/family relations 

Programs/Curriculum 

Child/human growth and development

Time, weeks/year 

This position runs for the duration of the school year, (end of August through mid-June) excluding seasonal breaks and holidays, 20-30 hours per week including time for mentoring. 

Compensation and Benefits 

Base wage $16.50 – $18 per hour 

Possible 50% remission
